The ESA expansion allows ALL Arizona students in Kindergarten through 12th grade to receive approximately $6,500 in State funds for the 2023-24 school year for educational expenses chosen by their parents, including for books, curriculum, instruction, and support provided by FranklinK12.

My Student Already Has an ESA ClassWallet Account

Great! Since FranklinK12 is a Direct Pay vendor with ClassWallet, getting starting should be super simple.
  1. First, choose our online program that best suits you and your student, and select the option to pay via ClassWallet on check out.
  2. We’ll email you a PDF invoice to upload to your ClassWallet account.
  3. ClassWallet will review and approve your order and notify us. 
That's all you need to do to get started!
Each quarter, we'll email you an invoice to upload to your ClassWallet account. The invoice must be submitted before that quarter's deadline to receive payment.

We Haven't Enrolled in ESA Yet

That’s okay. We can help you get started! With FranklinK12, you can enroll now and pay later, once you’ve been approved for an ESA account.

  1. First, choose our online program that best suits you and your student, and select the option to pay via ClassWallet on check out.
  2. We’ll email you a PDF invoice. Save this for now. You’ll need it to upload to your ClassWallet account once you’re ESA application is approved.
  3. Apply for an Arizona ESA at https://www.azed.gov/esa/eligibility-requirements and select the “Universal” category for your student. (You must apply for an ESA account for each of the students you with to receive funding.)
  4. Withdraw your student from enrollment in any public school, charter school, or public online program. Students on ESA cannot be enrolled in any public school.
  5. Wait for your application to be approved. Applications can take up to 45 days to process.
  6. Sign your ESA contract. Once approved, you’ll be sent a contract to sign that you as their parent agree to use the funds for the student’s education. Do not sign and return the contract until you have made sure to withdraw your student from public school.
  7. Wait for instructions from ESA about your ClassWallet account. Once approved, an account will be created for you to use and manage your ESA funds. This account can take up to 3 weeks to setup.
  8. Upload the saved PDF invoice we sent you previously to your new ClassWallet account.
  9. ClassWallet will review and approve your order and notify us. 
You're done for now! Future payments will be much easier now that you're set up with a ClassWallet account.

How do I use ESA funds to pay for FranklinK12 curriculum?

Each quarter, we’ll email you an invoice. Once funds are deposited into your ClassWallet account for that quarter, upload your Franklin12 invoice via the ClassWallet portal.

When are payments due?

In order not to pay from personal funds, be sure to submit invoices before the ESA quarterly deadlines.

Q1:  July 1 – September 30
Q2:  October 1 – December 31
Q3:  January 1 – March 31
Q4:  April 1 – June 30

I have ESA funds left over from a previous year/quarter. Can I use them to pay for Franklin12 curriculum?

Yes. Unused funds from prior quarters roll over and can be used up to 4 years after high school graduation.

Can I pay using my ESA debit card?

No. Per the Parent Handbook, debit cards should not be used to pay ClassWallet vendors, such as FranklinK12. Those payments and purchases should be paid through the ClassWallet portal.

What's needed to apply for an ESA?
  1. Student’s Birth Certificate
  2. Proof of Residency Document in the Applicant’s Name (parent/guardian applying)
  3. IEP / MET / 504 (if applicable)

Do I need to file a homeschool affidavit?

No. ESA students do not file homeschool affidavits and are not considered “homeschool” students by state law.
